Spantech constructed a shade structure designed by Fulton Trotter Architects. Lead Architect John Hay and the design team were looking for a light, robust solution to cover the existing space between two existing blocks of classrooms that were renovated as part of the overall project.
The school is located in a cyclone area and although the span of 23.7m could be achieved with the 300 Series panel, Spantech recommended the stronger 370 Series panel to allow the design team to increase the radius of the curve and reduce the apex height of the roof.
The light-weight fixed louvres at either end of the structure were manufactured and installed by Spantech. They allow air and ambient light into the structure while providing distinctive architectural appeal to the design.
Ceiling clips were installed in the roof as it was being constructed. These will support a thermal and acoustically insulated ceiling to be installed in the future.
Basketball backboards suspended from the roof and a line marked concrete court complete the facility.
