Another bulk potato store for Talley’s, New Zealand.
Spantech designed and constructed a series of Spantech 11,000 tonne potato stores for Talley’s Vegetable Division at their Ashburton processing plant.
The project has been constructed in stages over several years.
The latest stage takes the total number of Spantech Potatoes Stores at Talley’s Ashburton Operation to ten, for a total storage capacity of one hundred and ten thousand tonnes. That is enough capacity to keep the processing facility operational for more than ten months.
Features to keep potatoes fresher for longer
The Spantech building is insulated with a foam insulation system that includes a very effective fire retardant system.
The insulation works in combination with a fully automated climate controlled system to maintain the temperature inside the store at a constant 4 degrees Celsius, all year round.
The shape of the Spantech building has been carefully designed to make this system extremely efficient. Not only are there no dead spots in the air flow through the building and the potato stack, but the climate control system has lower operating costs than conventional storage buildings.
Exporting processed potatoes to the world
At their Ashburton processing plant Talley’s process French Fries and Oven Fries for export to Australia and Asia.
