Project Overview
The Australian Department of Defence owns several explosive ordnance and munitions manufacturing and storage facilities in Victoria.
In 1991 Spantech built nineteen Spantech 13 metre ESH (Explosive Storehouses) at one of these facilities. The buildings are designed to safely store large quantities of high explosives in a confined area.
The buildings feature a precast tunnel entrance. They are the only Spantech ESH to use this type of entrance and blast door configuration. The tunnel entrance design was modified after this project.
Spantech’s current range of ESH utilise a space-saving reinforced head wall, a design element that was tested and proven in a series of full-scale explosive tests – the Stack Frag Trials.
Current Site Operations
This Australian Department of Defence facility was originally operated by Australian Defence Industries (ADI). The site is now managed by Australian Munitions, a business owned by Thales Australia Limited.
Major Defence Primes, BAE and NIOA also operate from the site.
